I recently came across an interesting technique on Youtube that I had not seen before. It was so eye-catching that I had to try it out.
Thank you to Debbie Henderson for the inspiration. I decided to make mine into a sympathy card using a die cut sentiment over the top of the card. I won’t bore you with technique details … it is much much easier to watch the YouTube video!
There are several videos on YouTube using this “Northern Lights” technique and although I did find some great tips, my card is largely based on Debbie’s version. I did spray some irridescent glitter dust over the background for a little extra sumthin’ sumthin’.
Enjoy your day
I mentioned in my last post that I get a lot of inspiration from YouTube. Another of my favourite card makers is Laura Bassen (laurafadora.com) and today’s card is inspired by THIS ONE that Laura shared recently.
So… for this card I started by blending several of my new Distress Oxide Inks all over the background. I love how the overlap of inks blend into a combo colour – which is especially gorgeous with these rainbow colours. Then the image is stamped with the same colour inks. Amazingly, the stamped image stamps quite a bit darker than the sponged colour. what a great effect!!
Enjoy your day!
I get a lot of inspiration for my cards from YouTube and have several favourite card makers that I follow. Amy R (Prairie Paper & Ink) often creates her own backgrounds with repeat image stamping and often watercolours the images. I thought I would give this idea a try!
Sometimes Amy heat embosses the image which is a good way to “contain” the watercolour within part of the image but she has discovered that stamping with some inks (eg. Simon says Stamp “Barely Beige”) also “traps” the paint in parts of the image. This gives a “no line” kind of look to the water colouring!!
Today’s card makes me smile! Hope it did for you too!:)
We have another family wedding coming up in only 3 weeks time … so I am a little busy at the moment — just popping by to add another card quickly!
I had to make a very quick anniversary card for last weekend. (Gav & Mine — #34!!!) And … so I had a quick peek at Instagram and found this gorjuss …. THANKS Amanda, for the beautiful inspiration! I just fell in love with her design. I just added a few hearts to make it more of a LOVE card!!! 😉
I had 3 little dye ink cubes from Hero Arts that came in their most recent card kit … and they were such pretty colours that I decided to try them out. I LOVED how well they blended together. Like butter! Am very impressed! They don’t do the “water drop” effect as well … but this might be improved if I used watercolour card instead of plain white. I will have to experiment a little more!
Here is a photo of our son Shane, and his fiance Stacey. Yes!!! We now have 2 Staceys in our family … it gets VERY confusing … especially as I also have a good friend called Stacey! The wedding is on June 24 and we are very excited and looking forward to the special day. Shane has had a lot of ups and downs along the way … but his Stacey is perfect for him and we are thrilled to see them get to this point! And … yes … I have my dress for the wedding … but am on a crash diet to lose some kgs before the BIG day!!!
Well better fly … I need to add my craft packs to Gumtree … I still have 16 more to sell and I need the kitchen bench back … so I have to get rid of them asap! Don’t forget to check out these SUPER GREAT VALUE craft goodies packs at my “A Big Clearance” page!
See you all soon! Hugs xxx
I have recently joined up to a stamp club run by Leonie, my SU! buddy. I just thought it would be nice to catch up regularly for some social and stamping time … but so far I have only made it to 2 of 4 workshops! It is also a good opportunity to see some of the new SU! goodies in action. This is one of the projects I managed to get done. A gorgeous little gift card set that Leonie found online!
The gorgeous papers on these cards are from the “Floral Boutique” DSP pack.
The die cut on the white band is the “Detailed Floral Thinlits” die.
Hope you are enjoying my recent posts! Hugs xx
Hi blog friends!
I am back from my travels with Gav’s family! We had a WONDERFUL time in Asia cruising on the BRAND NEW Ovation of the Seas on her MAIDEN voyage! What a stunning ship! Our balcony cabin was sooo gorgeous and comfortable. They have definitely ‘upped’ the wow factor both in the cabins and over all the ship. Wow! We were very impressed. Yes … we had a few queues from time to time … a few hiccups that I am sure are just teething problems and will be sorted quickly (after all – there were over 4,500 people on board!) … but really I cannot commend Royal Caribbean enough for making our holiday so very special. It was amazing. I was so pleasantly surprised how much I did enjoy visiting some of the Asian cities too! After being a little apprehensive, I was absolutely fascinated with the history and the culture and some of the cities were simply beautiful. Lots of greenery and very clean. At other times the poverty was quite obvious and saddened me … but the smiles on the peoples faces showed that they were content and happy! I am keen to return which is a total surprise to me to find myself saying that! 🙂
While we were away … my dear brother in law lost his sister to cancer. It was a long, brave battle and not an unexpected outcome but still very sad for him and for my sister and the wider family. I had actually made a couple of sympathy cards in anticipation before I left for our holiday and we heard the news when we were in Vietnam. I am sending out hugs with this post for my dear family who are grieving at this time.
Just before we left my dear hubby’s uncle also passed away after a struggle with cancer and Gav was able to travel up to Q’ld with Skye & Shane to attend his funeral. It was another sad occasion. Life can sometimes be hard! I made two of each of a few different sympathy cards which went to different members of both the affected families.
I was actually quite happy with this card. It is probably one of my most satisfying results in a long time. Of course … the inspiration was from a old/new favourite … Laura Bassen. Old – I have been a fan of Laura for years + New – have recently been following her creations for SSS and been totally smitten again! 😀
The colouring is done with COPICs and each of the petals and leaves have some added clear Wink of Stella for subtle shimmer. I fussy cut every one of the flowers and leaves (X2)!!! And … later they released a matching die set … which I am now in possession of!!! 😉

Simon Says Stamps – Spring Flowers
SU! – sentiment
I will share the other sympathy cards I made sometime soon.
Well ……. today is the day! We are off to Singapore to join our 12 night cruise to Hong Kong, Vietnam, South Korea & China! It is exciting, although I am a little daunted at the language barriers that we might come up against this time. We do have some lovely tours etc planned … but I am just looking forward to some relax time. We are so very tired and just need a good holiday!
I am sharing another card that I made at Leonie’s, last time I was there. She had 2 new dies that I had fun playing with. You have already seen both on recent card posts … but this card brings them both together on the one card! 🙂
Card Inspiration: Leena Girsa – My card is an almost identical CASE of this original design!!!
SU! – Rose Wonder (sentiment)
SU! – Bloomin’ Heart Thinlit Die
SU! – Balloon Framelits
I have posts scheduled … so you shouldn’t miss me too much while I am gone! 😉 See you when we get home again!! Hugs xxx
