Happiness is stamping with friends!

Birthday Blooms two ways

Birthday Blooms SU May16 (6)

Hi blog friends!

I am a little taken with the new-ish “Birthday Blooms” stamp set in the recent SU! catty. It is a super versatile little stamp set with a gorgeous flower that I have played with quite a bit lately! I actually think I bought this by mistake … but have definitely had fun with it.

So … I have done 2 identical cards using 2 different techniques.

Birthday Blooms SU May16 (1)

One is coloured with Copic markers and the other is done using watercolour paints.

Birthday Blooms SU May16 (2)

The Copic sample is stamped with black momento ink and finished with some pretty Clear Wink of Stella glitter.

Birthday Blooms SU May16 (7)

For the second card … the image is stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with white embossing powder onto SU! shimmer white cardstock. I made sure the card was quite wet to allow the paint to flow into each section of the flower. I also did a bit of a wash around the flower. I have added some Wink of Stella to this one too.

Birthday Blooms SU May16 (3)

Now … I was kinda desperate to play along with a challenge. It has been probably close to 2 years since I have done one. (It would be interesting to check back and see!) I do know that this is a bit of a stretch … but I thought the vellum scallop circlet sort of followed the latest Just Add Ink challenge wreath element???? A bit subjective … but I thought I would enter it for a little fun, anyway … cos that is what challenges are about — a bit of fun!! 😀

So … I think my favourite of the two is the soft, feminine watercoloured card … but the Copic card is also quite eye-catching and pretty too!

Hope you are having a great day. Poor Shane is having a bit of drama today after ‘spraining’ his ankle at soccer just over a week ago. It seems now that the original X-rays were ‘crap’ … and what was diagnosed at the hospital as a sprain seems now to be a couple of fractures, bone fragments and a possible dislocation requiring surgery. He has been at the hospital (the one where he works this time) for most of the afternoon and evening today. Let’s hope he gets a proper diagnosis this time and the proper treatment, too! Hugs xxx

Added 12 Jul: Well … I did check back … and I have done 2 random challenges this year … but apart from those 2 I haven’t done any since October 2014. It has been a while since I have done regular challenges … that’s for sure! 😀

Work it Wednesday!

SSS Love Bouquet Die (5)Hi bloggies!

Most of my bloggies (blog buddies) will know that I am a very devoted SU! user after being a demo for nearly 5 years … BUT … I must admit … that I do have lots more NON-SU! goodies now that I am not longer a demo. I have a few favourite ‘go-to’ craft shops … but the main one I now order from is Simon Says Stamps. It just is such a ‘one-stop’ shop! It is rare not to find what I am looking for there! Anyway … I decided that a recent card I made fitted the bill for the SSS Work it Wednesday challenge for March 2016! So … here is my PASTEL sample …

SSS Love Bouquet Die (2)

Be kind! I haven’t done a challenge in months! But … it is kinda nice to have a go!  I have used 3 different white cardstock for this card … basic white + glossy white + glimmer white. The hearts die cut is a new Simon Says Stamps die called “Love Bouquet”… just gorgeous and beautifully detailed without being too fussy! The sentiment die is from another FAV supplier Paper Smooches called “Always & Forever” … I bought it directly from PS but I think SSS might stock it as well.

Here are some snaps with more detail … remember you can click on any to open a slide show of full size pics!

  • Cut card base – white cardstock – 10.5 x  29.7cm … score @ 14.85cm
  • Cut glimmer mat – 8.5 x 12.85cm
  • Cut 1 white cardstock – 8 x 12.35cm (for main front panel) – cut die into centre and discard the die cut out – (keep it for another card!!) – remember to keep the tiny ‘bits’ from the centre of the leaves and flowers … you will need them!
  • Cut 1 glossy cardstock – 8 x 12.35 cm (for pastel rainbow die insert) Using watercolour paints do a rainbow wash diagonally across card … then cut die into centre and discard the ‘background’ piece of card and the ‘tiny bits’.
  • Cut 2 centre hearts using die from glimmer card scrap.
  • Glue the main die cut panel onto the glimmer layer. Glue the fine rainbow die cut and the hearts into position and also add the ‘tiny bits’ of white card inside the leaves & flowers.
  • On another scrap of glossy card do a watercolour wash and then cut sentiment.
  • Assemble card and glue sentiment in position. Add rhinestones.

SSS Love Bouquet Die (4)

This card looks a lot more complicated than it really is! I am sure you would manage it! 😀 Sometimes it is hard to work out if the die piece is glued ON TO the top of the white mat or INTO the white mat. In this case it is INTO the white mat. Does this make sense? 🙄 ?? Well I will get this linked up … and then off to do my groceries! Have a great day! Hugs xxx

A Whole Year More Incrediblerer!

A Whole Year (3)Hello again!

So far … so good! I have managed to get some cards on my blog! FINALLY! This is my most recent creation … and although I haven’t mailed it yet to my niece (the soon to be recipient), I know that NO-ONE reads my blog anymore … so it is safe to post it here!! 😀 😉 (grin!)

A Whole Year (1)A Whole Year (4)A Whole Year (2)

I am gradually getting the hang of my COPICS … but do need to work on ‘curly hair’ a bit more. I also need some more colours. With a limited range it is hard to do good blending. I did indulge a little in the recent Simon Says Stamping COPIC sale … and ordered a few more! SShhh … don’t tell Gav! 😉

Hi bloggies!

I spent some time on Thursday night completely revamping my “Fun Challenges” page … after realising that the links were all playing up! It was time for a clean up … as several of the challenges I had listed … have since finished up and are no longer running. I hope you check out the new page … because there are heaps of links (now working) for lots of fabulous challenges. I always find a challenge is a fantastic starting point for a card. A few colours … or a new layout … is often just what you need to get the mojo pumping! I haven’t had much time for challenges over the last couple of years after being such a devotee previously … but am keen to get into the routine again now! If time will permit! I am just popping by quickly to get this card posted in time for the dead-line of the latest Freshly Made Sketches challenge. (One of my FAV sketch challenge blogs!)

Fifth Avenue Floral (1)

Fifth Avenue Floral (3)I saw a card on Teneale’s Blog last week … that really caught my eye and made my fingers itchy!! 😉 I just had to break out my blendies and have a try with the “Fifth Avenue Floral” rose! Yes … the set is retired … but is one that I will have trouble parting with and always enjoy playing with! I was actually pretty tickled with the result … and feel like I am beginning to get the hang of the blendabilities! 😀 After colouring the roses, I went looking for some inspiration for the layout for the card … and realised that the two roses would fit as the 2 circles in the FMS sketch! I had so much fun with this one! I used some Washi Tape for the strips along the bottom. A big thanks to Teneale & to FMS for the inspiration!

Gav & Shane are excited … their team … the Bulldogs are in the Grand Final of the NRL. So … of course … they are looking forward to watching the match tonight! Gav deserves a night off after spending 12 hours yesterday doing board interviews for the new CEO of our school. (And he has another day of the same tomorrow!) Today has made up for it though … with the whole family at church this morning … here for lunch and dinner and to watch the match! I am always excited to have the whole family here together! Hope you are having a great weekend. xx

Retro Sketches #133

It's Your Birthday MD Nov14 (4)

Hi again!

Yes … another sketch challenge! I am on a roll!! And … while I was on a roll with the Dracula Owl card (see yesterday’s post) … I thought I would try another spooky character for this card too! The recipient (to-be) of this card is actually the son of the brother-in-law who is getting the Dracula card!! My nephew’s birthday is just a few days after his dad’s! Hopefully that will bring a smile to their faces! Click on the sketch pic to visit the challenge Retro Sketches #133!

It's Your Birthday MD Nov14 (1)It's Your Birthday MD Nov14 (3)I had already played around with my owl punch creating these two little Caspar the friendly ghosts (after being inspired by the Dracula) and had them ready to go … so I went looking for a sketch to suit. As soon as I saw the button peeking out from this sketch … I knew what I wanted to do with my ghosts! 🙂 This one did bring a smile to my face once I was finished … and hopefully it is suitable for a 15 year old boy?? (I hope it is not too young?) Anyway … it was fun to play along with this sketch challenge … and I enjoyed my stamping time immensely on Tuesday!

The postie brought my SU! order yesterday. I had barely ordered from the new annual (not so “new” now!) catty or from the Holiday catalogue. I was still rather restrained with my order … but I did treat myself to a couple of new punches and matching stamp sets! I am dying to have a play and with school holidays here … I might go and do just that!!! 🙂 See you again soon! Hugs xxx

CAS(E) this sketch #93

Work of Art CD Oct14 (4)Hi bloggies!

Back again! Did you enjoy my Creative Blog Hop post yesterday? Sigh … sometimes I wonder if I am just talking to myself here … but then up pops a comment from one of my blog buddies … and I walk away from my computer with a smile on my face! I did a challenge!!!!! My second one in about 18 months!!! You all know how much I love challenges … but I just can’t seem to get my butt into gear lately and have cards ready for a deadline! BUT … I am keen to get back into the swing of things again. Yesterday was a GOOD card day! You know … one of those days where the inspiration just flows … and the brain ideas actually translate to the hands!!! 🙂 It was the FAB inspiration from the CAS(E) this sketch challenge #93 that got me started!  Click on the sketch pic to visit the challenge!

Work of Art CD Oct14 (1)Work of Art CD Oct14 (3)This card is for my brother-in-law’s birthday which is on October 31st! Yes … Halloween. We don’t really celebrate Halloween in Australia … although many are beginning to get into it more! I’m not sure if Aussies understand why they celebrate it!??? Anyway … I saw this cute little owl punch vampire on pinterest and decided that I needed to do a Halloween theme card for a Halloween birthday! I know … the colours aren’t traditionally Halloween … but it is a birthday card after all! 🙂 I have to thank Lisa C. Rhine – “Get Crafty with Lisa” – for the great tutorial for this little fellow! I’m not sure if you can see the ‘soft sky’ splash of colour behind the owl and on the main card. It does look more obvious IRL!

Well … the kiddies are here! Every Wednesday and one Monday per month I mind my two grandkids while my daughter is at work! I had better go and get them breakfast! Have a great day! Hugs xxx

Just in time …

TE Sweet Occasions RS'13 (4)Hi bloggies!

I said I would be back yesterday to post another card for a deadline … but plans don’t always go as intended! I think I can just squeeze this card in before the challenge closes. I told you how hard it was to get my brain into gear on Saturday when I sat to make some cards. This was the first I attempted … and I really did need the help of a PERFECT challenge ‘THE DOUBLE’ (sketch & colour combo) over at CAS – Colours & Sketches Blog. The inspiration was just what I needed to give my mojo a kick-start!

So … I was shocked how long this card took to make. The mojo is truly rusty! But … I was actually quite pleased with the end result. The ‘dainty bow’ die is a winner with me! Love the sweet little bow! All the little images from the Sweet Occasions stamp set are hand cut! Well … I hope you like this one! I would love to know!GEN 12 Andrea 2TE Sweet Occasions RS'13 recipeTE Sweet Occasions RS'13 (2)

Brain Fuzz!

You Take the Cake - JH'13 (4)Hi bloggies!

Saturday was a cool rainy day … and we had no particular plans … so YIPPEE … I could take some ‘time out’ to stamp. BUT … little did I know how frustrating this time would be! I am so rusty that it took all day to make 3 cards! (With a few interruptions, of course!) I had some FAB new stamps to use … but could not pull a design together … if my life depended on it!!! So … I checked out a few challenge blogs … and found a great colour combo to get me started. I pulled out my “sketches book”with all the sketch files that I have downloaded & printed from the internet. Here is what I finally came up with! ………..

You Take the Cake - JH'13 (1)You Take the Cake - JH'13 (3)I added some pretty accents — Stickles and Liquid Pearls … but I need to practise having a steady hand for these pretties! They are a little ‘messy’! And this ‘enlargement’ pic shows just how much of an amateur I am!!! 😉 But … over all I was quite happy with the result! This was inspired by the Play Date Cafe challenge #167 … a sweet colour combo! I haven’t done a challenge card in MONTHS!!! So … a little brain fuzz interfered … but I hope they like it anyway!!!

Will be back to show you another tomorrow … I have to get it posted before the deadline!
